Central Florida strengthened its Mid-Florida Conference men's basketball position Saturday with a convincing 90-78 win at St. Johns River.
Four Patriots scored in double figures in a diverse CF offensive attack, led by Eugene McCrory and Hunter Williams with 19 points apiece. Luis Jacobo added 15 and Christian Martinez chipped in 13.
The CF bench produced two standout performers in support, as freshman guard Jernell Hughes scored 9 and returning sophomore Brian Pace had 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Patriots made half of their 28 attempts from 3-point range, led by Williams' 5-for-9 effort.
CF (18-7, 5-2 MFC) continue to pursue Santa Fe for first place in the conference standings. The first-place team at the end of the 12-game schedule advances directly to the FCSAA State Tournament; the others will fight it out in a single-elimination tournament for the MFC's other postseason berth. The Patriots host FSC-Jacksonville on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
