Central Florida concluded its 2011-12 women's basketball season in winning fashion Saturday, taking a 68-61 victory at FSC-Jacksonville.
The Lady Patriots, staying home from the FCSAA State Tournament for the first time in a decade, nonetheless packed their pride and competitive spirit for the season finale. They built a double-digit lead in the first half and fought off a comeback attempt from the host Lady Stars in the final minutes to end the campaign on a positive note.
CF's season ends with a 14-16 overall record and a 5-7 showing in the Mid-Florida Conference, good for a third-place finish.
The Lady Patriots advanced to the postseason as the MFC's third-place team a year ago and reached the state semifinals; this year, the rotating assignment of playoff berths to the state's three women's basketball conferences left the MFC with only two postseason spots to fight over. Daytona State and Hillsborough will represent the MFC in the state tournament.
