CF Patriots 56, Daytona State 51 (MBB)

Central Florida continued to stoutly defend its Mid-Florida Conference men's basketball title Saturday evening, visiting top contender Daytona State and securing a 56-51 victory.

The Patriots (15-5, 2-0 MFC) have now knocked off each of the two perceived major threats to a repeat conference championship, having handled Santa Fe at home a week prior. Daytona has been a particular nuisance to the Patriots in recent years, having beaten them out for the MFC crown two seasons ago and joining CF at the FCSAA State Tournament a year ago.

Emerging freshman forward Eugene McCrory led CF with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while freshman guard Jernell Hughes and sophomore center Alhaji Fullah added 9 points apiece.

Game three of the 12-game MFC slate is set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Ocala against St. Johns River.
