Central Florida came up short at first-place Santa Fe on Wednesday, dropping a Mid-Florida Conference baseball game by a score of 5-3.
Bradley Goodson had 2 hits and scored 2 runs and Scott Schaub had 2 RBI to lead CF, which scored 2 runs in the eighth inning to take a final shot at a streaking Saints team threatening to run away with the conference crown.
The setback ended the Patriots' own four-game win streak, and damages their hopes of securing one of the two state tournament berths allotted the MFC. CF (17-27-1, 7-9 MFC) remains tangled among Daytona State, Lake-Sumter and Seminole in back of frontrunning Santa Fe and second-place St. Johns River. The Patriots have an opportunity to gain ground on SJR when they visit Palatka on Friday.
