Former Patriot Juan Perez a Promising Minor-League Prospect

Former Central Florida pitcher Juan Perez has emerged as a lights-out closer for the Asheville Tourists, the Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

A 6-0, 190-pound righthander out of Orlando, Perez followed his tenure at CF with a standout season at Bethune-Cookman, where in 2010 he earned first-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors and set a new single-season school record with 10 saves. Last June, the Rockies selected him in the 18th round of the MLB draft.

Perez flashed promise in his first minor-league assignment later in 2010, posting a 3-1 record and 2.60 ERA in 21 appearances for the Casper Ghosts, Colorado's rookie league outfit. He graduated to the Class A Tourists for 2011 and has enjoyed continued success, racking up 3 wins and 3 saves and posting a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings of work across 8 appearances.
