Central Florida saw a ninth-inning rally fall short Monday at Goodlett Field in a 4-2 loss to Daytona State.
The visiting Falcons picked up a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to break a 1-1 tie. The Patriots responded in the ninth, plating a run and bringing the winning run to the plate before running out of outs.
Christian Coburn had 2 hits and Casey Smit a double to headline the Patriot offense.
CF (7-21-1, 1-3 Mid-Florida Conference) hosts Lincoln Land in a non-conference game Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., then looks to make up ground in the MFC on Wednesday at 3 p.m. as it hosts Santa Fe in the first half of a home-and-home series. The Patriots visit their Gainesville rival on Friday.
