Central Florida dropped its second straight Mid-Florida Conference game on Saturday with a 4-2 loss at Daytona State.
The Patriots stayed in the game on the strength of a solid starting pitching effort from Clint Cronin. The freshman righthander logged 7 2/3 innings and struck out 6 before taking the loss. Casey Smit had 3 hits and Josh Whitchurch had a double among his 2 hits to pace the offense.
CF (7-20-1, 1-2 MFC) completes the home-and-home with Daytona on Monday at 3 p.m. at Goodlett Field. A win would go a long way toward keeping the Falcons, off to a 3-0 start in conference play, from flying away from the MFC pack.
