Jessica Knight earned a complete-game victory and five different Patriots crossed the plate as Central Florida won the first half of Saturday's home doubleheader over South Florida by a score of 5-1. The visitors came back to win the late game 7-0.
Knight, CF's returning sophomore staff ace, yielded 7 hits and an earned run while striking out 3 to notch her 7th win of the season in the opener. Arika Fox, Miranda Anderson, Jandrew Collins, Samantha Sibley and Kasie Cheney scored a run apiece for the Patriots. Cheney, a mid-year transfer to the program, continued to assert herself in the CF lineup with 2 hits, including a double, and 2 RBI.
The Patriots (11-21) are scheduled for one last non-conference tuneup Tuesday at Pasco-Hernando before Mid-Florida Conference play opens Thursday with a 2 p.m. visit from Daytona State.
