CF Patriots 4, Lake-Sumter 1 (Baseball)

The skies over Goodlett Field stayed clear just long enough for Central Florida to squeeze in a 4-1, 5-inning victory over Lake-Sumter on Wednesday.

Inclement weather caused the game to be called just after it reached the threshold of an official game, leaving Patriots starter Chase Wissman's 5-inning, 2-hit, 4-strikeout performance to stand as a complete-game victory.

Ryan Rodriguez, Casey Smit and Christian Coburn drove in a run apiece in a 3-run fourth inning that broke a 1-1 tie. Bradley Goodson had 2 hits and a run scored on the day.

CF (15-26-1, 5-8 Mid-Florida Conference) edged closer to .500 in conference play with the win, moving within 4 games in the loss column of current MFC second-place team St. Johns River and 5 games back of frontrunner Santa Fe. The top two finishers at the end of the 24-game MFC slate advance to the state tournament in May (full standings).

Next up in that pursuit is a Saturday visit to Daytona State. First, however, the Patriots host NJCAA Division II opponent Pasco-Hernando on Friday at 3 p.m.
