CF Patriots 1, Daytona State 0; Daytona 6, CF 4 (Softball)

Central Florida earned its first Mid-Florida Conference softball victory Thursday with a 1-0 eight-inning win over Daytona State. The visiting Falcons took the second half of the doubleheader 6-4.

Sophomore Jessica Knight pitched an 8-inning shutout and provided the winning hit at the plate. Kasie Cheney led off the eighth inning with a walk, Jessica Lopez moved her to second with a sacrifice and Knight's bloop hit to shallow centerfield allowed Cheney to round third and get the Patriots in the mix of the MFC race.

Miranda Anderson had 2 hits, including the above-depicted double that gave the Patriots a seventh-inning scoring threat in advance of the threat it consummated in the eighth.

A resilient CF squad staged a late rally in the second game as well, scoring 3 runs in the fifth to make a run at the Falcons' 6-1 lead. Megan David had 2 hits, an RBI and a run, Jandrew Collins added 2 RBI, Cheney went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Anderson had 2 hits, a walk and a run scored.

CF (13-28, 1-5 MFC) hosts FSC-Jacksonville on Saturday at 1 p.m. with its eyes on further progress in the conference standings.
