Central Florida lost another tightly-contested baseball game Wednesday, falling to host St. Petersburg 6-5. CF (1-3-1) has now suffered all three of its losses by a single run, in addition to playing Hillsborough to a tie.
The Patriots couldn't capitalize on a strong start by newcomer Clint Cronin, a former high school quarterback who joined the Patriots at the winter break. The righthander threw 6 strong innings, striking out 9 Titan batters. Josh Whitchurch led the CF offense with a 3-for-4 effort and an RBI, while Danny Alimonti went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
CF's first 2011 road trip continues Friday at Miami-Dade; the Patriots return to Goodlett Field on Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. against Polk.
