A promising pitcher's duel got out of hand for the Patriots on Friday at Goodlett Field as South Florida piled on late runs in an 8-2 win.
Nick Radomski put the Patriots ahead in the second inning with a 2-run home run over the towering leftfield fence. The shot provided CF starter Nick Arscott with the cushion he needed, and the freshman righthander pitched 5 strong innings of 3-hit, shutout.
But the Panthers touched the Patriot bullpen for multiple runs in three of the remaining four innings as the CF bats fell silent. First baseman Danny Alimonti had 2 hits and a walk for the home team.
CF (3-7-1) hosts Gulf Coast in a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
