Central Florida gave the state's fifth-ranked team all it could handle Tuesday, losing a narrow 5-4 loss to host SCF-Sarasota in an evening doubleheader. The home team won the opener 10-0.
CF (1-3) went ahead 2-0 on a Samantha Sibley 2-run double, and tied the score at 4 in the top of the 7th and final inning behind RBI hits from Samantha Stewart and Jandrew Collins. Sarasota plated a run in the bottom of the inning for the walk-off victory.
Sophomore Jessica Knight threw a complete game for the Patriots, yielding 7 hits and an earned run while striking out two in the late game. Catcher Jessica Lopez added 3 hits to a solid CF offense.
The Patriots' road trip continues Thursday at Hillsborough.
