Central Florida forced an extra inning in pursuit of a doubleheader softball split Saturday before falling short 3-2. Visiting Polk took the opener 13-2.
Sophomore leadoff hitter Megan David tied the nightcap at 1 with an RBI single in the seventh inning, forcing an extra frame. After the Vikings plated 2 runs in the top of the eighth, sophomore slugger Brittany Baker kept the pressure on with an RBI double in the home half of the inning, but the Patriots couldn't manufacture the tying run for a second consecutive inning.
Jessica Knight continued her solid play at the plate and on the mound, blasting a 2-run home run in the opener and producing a strong complete-game pitching effort in the nightcap.
CF (2-12) travels to Clermont on Sunday to face Indian River. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
