Central Florida shook off an early-game shutout to earn a baseball split Saturday at Goodlett Field. Visiting Gulf Coast took the opener 6-0; the Patriots won the late game 9-6.
CF scored 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 5-2 Commodores lead and claim the second game of the doubleheader. A pair of Marion County products figured prominently in the decisive inning: Belleview graduate Nick Radomski stroked a 2-run single with the bases loaded to jump-start the rally, and Vanguard graduate Scott Schaub singled in a run, stole second base and came around a score to cap the big inning.
Another local, Belleview alumnus Charlie Neely, picked up the win in relief, scattering 3 hits and a run over the final 2 innings.
Josh Whitchurch continued to swing a hot bat for the Patriots, going 2-for-3 in each game while driving in a run and scoring in the nightcap.
