Central Florida mounted a valiant comeback against Daytona State on Saturday before falling 63-61.
The loss eliminates CF from contention for the Mid-Florida Conference title and damages its postseason hopes, though the Lady Patriots (15-13, 5-5 MFC) still maintain a one-game lead over idle Hillsborough (4-6 MFC) for the conference's third and final state tournament berth with two games left to play. CF visits Hillsborough on Wednesday in a game that will go a long way toward settling the matter.
CF overcame a 30-18 halftime deficit with a second-half run that tied the game at 58, but the Lady Falcons held on with late free throws and defensive stops.
Janay Borum led the Lady Patriots with 14 points and 5 steals, while Briana Gibson added 8 points and 10 rebounds.
