A strong start by Cody Lewis and an early home run from Scott Schaub put the Central Florida baseball team back in the win column Wednesday with an 8-5 win at Indian River.
Schaub's three-run first-inning blast gave the Patriots (6-12-1) an early lead, and Lewis did his part on the mound, yielding no earned runs over 7 innings while striking out 5. Schaub finished with 2 hits and 5 RBI, while Casey Smit went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kyle Leja picked up the save.
The teams complete their home-and-home set on Friday at 3 p.m. at Goodlett Field.
