Central Florida hosted the state's eighth-ranked softball team on Thursday and came away with an impressive doubleheader split. The Patriots won the first game 4-3, then lost 4-1.
Jessica Knight turned in a strong start for CF in the opener, allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs in a complete-game victory. She also played a role in the Patriots' first-inning offense, following Miranda Anderson's RBI double with an RBI double of her own, and broke a 3-3 sixth-inning tie with a two-out, bases-loaded single that scored Kasie Cheney for the go-ahead and ultimately decisive run.
Brittany Baker, Megan David and Jessica Lopez joined Knight, Cheney and Anderson with multiple hits on the day.
CF (9-19) visits Polk on Saturday.
