Central Florida wrapped up its women's basketball regular season Saturday with a workmanlike 63-61 victory over FSC-Jacksonville.
Yasmeen Thompson hit her second game-winning shot in as many games, executing a textbook pick-and-roll with Quinnecia Twine and depositing a layup with 9 seconds remaining to break a 61-61 tie. The shot was an encore to the last-second offensive putback on Wednesday that gave the Lady Patriots a win over Hillsborough and clinched their postseason berth.
Twine led the Lady Patriots with 15 points, while Thompson and point guard Janay Borum added 14 apiece as the home team shook off an eight-point halftime deficit to earn the victory.
CF (17-13, 7-5 Mid-Florida Conference) enters the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament as the MFC's third seed, and will face Southern Conference champion Indian River State in a quarterfinal on Wednesday, March 2 at Chipola College in Marianna.
