The Central Florida women's basketball team saw its season series with archrival Santa Fe evened Monday night as the Lady Saints claimed a 67-62 victory on CF's home floor.
With the win, Santa Fe avenged the come-from-behind victory the Lady Patriots swiped Jan. 5 to open Mid-Florida Conference play. The Lady Saints retained first place in the MFC at 5-1, now a game and a half ahead of 3-2 CF.
Tiara Smith led three double-digit scorers for CF with 17 points, while Quinnecia Twine and Briana Gibson added 12 apiece. Gibson had a game-high 7 rebounds.
The loss damages CF's chances at a conference championship, though it should have a negligible impact on its pursuit of one of the MFC's three state tournament berths. The Lady Patriots remain a postseason near-lock as long as Hillsborough and FSC-Jacksonville, each of whom entered Monday with one win apiece, continue to struggle.
CF (13-10, 3-2 MFC) returns to the floor Wednesday with a trip to Daytona State.
