CF Lady Patriots 71, Brevard 55 (WBB)

The Central Florida women's basketball team completed a home-opening hat trick on Sunday, beating Brevard 71-55 to wrap up an unbeaten run through its three-day CF Shootout.

The Lady Patriots were again led by freshman phenom Moniqua Darby, who totalled a game-high 21 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Janay Borum recorded a 14-point, 10-assist double-double, while forwards Charo Fowler and Simone High added 12 apiece off the bench. CF shook off a shaky first half with a dominant stretch run, outscoring the Titans 41-26 after halftime while shooting 56 percent from the field.

CF handled Miami-Dade and Broward on Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the first two legs of the three-day marathon.

The Lady Patriots, ranked fifth in the state and 20th in the nation, improved to 7-1 with the victory. The only blemish on their record is a narrow Nov. 13 loss at College of Southern Idaho, the nation's No. 8 team. CF faces its toughest in-state test next weekend in Niceville, facing host Northwest Florida State on Saturday after a neutral-site game against Northwest Shoals, Ala., on Friday.
