Central Florida suffered a poorly-timed doubleheader sweep on Thursday, falling to Seminole State by scores of 5-0 and 5-4.
After being blanked in the opener, the Patriots offense put together 2 multiple-run innings to push the nightcap to nine innings. Jessica McClellan and Katie Hayes drove in runs in the third inning to get the home team on the board, and Belinda Rennes delivered a bases-loaded single in the sixth to score Jennifer Hunter and Jessica Chewning and extend the game before Seminole plated the decisive run in the ninth.
The losses deliver a blow to the Patriots' fragile postseason hopes, as they entered the game in a tie for the conference's fifth and final FCCAA State Tournament berth. (Click here for full MFC and FCCAA standings.) CF (13-28, 4-12) has a week off before visiting FSC-Jacksonville on April 8.
