Central Florida earned a split in a crucial Mid-Florida Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Lake-Sumter, winning the early game 3-1 and dropping the nightcap 3-0.
Megan Still pitched a complete game for the Patriots in the opener, allowing just 5 hits, striking out 3 and yielding an unearned run. Jessica Knight delivered a bases-loaded single to plate 2 runs in the fourth, and back-to-back doubles by Jessica McClellan and Katie Hayes in the fifth inning produced an insurance run. McClellan had 3 hits and Hayes 2 to lead a solid CF offensive effort in support of Still's pitching gem.
The Lakers salvaged their home date with a shutout win in the late game. Kylie Ondriezek provided the CF offensive highlight with a triple.
While CF (14-31, 5-15 MFC) didn't gain any ground in its pursuit of the MFC's fifth and final FCCAA State Tournament spot, currently the property of Lake-Sumter. The Patriots remain tied in the loss column with the 7-15 Lakers.
