Central Florida took its second consecutive loss to its closest rival on Monday, falling to Santa Fe 7-4.
The Patriots built the foundation of a rally in the ninth inning as Dru Jones doubled in front of a Kenneth Stalls opposite-field home run, cutting into the 5-run lead Santa Fe brought into the final frame. But the CF bats fell silent, going down in order to conclude the game.
Stalls hit 2 home runs on the game, including a solo shot in the fourth, for his fifth and sixth homers of the season. Bradley Goodson and Paul Karmeris contributed 2 hits apiece, while Hunter Smith drove in a run.
CF (21-12, 6-4 Mid-Florida Conference) has the better part of a week to recover for its next home-and-home series, against FSC-Jacksonville. The Patriots host on Friday, then visit the Stars on Saturday.
