Central Florida 8, Lake-Sumter 0 (BASE)

Now that's how you open a conference schedule.

Central Florida ace Matt Gendron put the rest of the Mid-Florida Conference on notice Saturday, hurling a no-hitter and striking out 10 as the Patriots routed Lake-Sumter 8-0 in CF's conference opener. Gendron, a sophomore righthander out of Lakeland, walked one Lakers batter and hit another with a pitch, the only two minor blemishes on an otherwise pristine pitching effort.

Though Gendron hardly needed it, the offense piled on in support of their dominant pitcher with an 8-run effort of their own. Paul Karmeris went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Hunter Smith went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the way.

The Patriots (15-8, 1-0 MFC), positioned as a favorite entering their 24-game MFC slate, wrap up their home-and-home with Lake-Sumter (9-11-1, 2-1 MFC) on Monday, hosting the Lakers at 2:30 p.m. at Goodlett Field.
