The Central Florida softball team continued its solid recent play Saturday at Tifton, Ga., earning a split with host Abraham-Baldwin. The Patriots won the opener 3-1 before dropping a 2-0 decision in the nightcap. CF, inching towards .500 at 9-14 overall, has won 6 of its last 8 games.
The early game saw Megan Still record her third pitching win in as many CF games. The freshman tossed a complete-game 2-hitter and struck out 8, moving her record into winning territory at 7-6. Kylie Ondriezek collected 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and scored twice, while Jennifer Hunter drove in 2 runs and scored another. Jessica McClellan went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in the other Patriot run.
Katie Hayes provided the highlights in the nightcap with a hit and a pair of walks, but CF could not make good on a solid pitching effort from Jordan Rambo.
After four consecutive games against out-of-state opponents, the Patriots return to more familiar rivals this week as they open a six-game homestand. Tuesday brings a 2 p.m. visit from St. Petersburg, while St. Johns River arrives Thursday at 2 p.m. to open the Patriots' Mid-Florida Conference schedule.
