Central Florida earned its second consecutive doubleheader split on Thursday and narrowly missed its first Mid-Florida Conference doubleheader sweep. The Patriots blanked Daytona State 2-0 in the opener, then dropped a 3-1 heartbreaker late.
Ace Megan Still pitched her second complete-game shutout of the week, including Tuesday's gem against St. Johns River. The freshman ace allowed just 3 hits against 9 strikeouts. Offensively, Jennifer Hunter hit a solo home run, Erin McMahan had a double and a run scored and Megan David added a hit and an RBI. The victory gave the Patriots their second win in three games after they opened conference play with six losses.
The nightcap saw Daytona plate 3 runs over the final 2 innings to deny CF the home sweep. Kylie Ondriezek, Jessica McClellan and Hunter notched a hit apiece, while McMahan drew a walk and scored the Patriots' lone run of the game.
CF (11-24, 2-8 MFC) visits powerhouse Santa Fe on Saturday.
