St. Petersburg earned payback Monday for its opening-day loss in Ocala, beating Central Florida 9-5.
Hunter Smith smashed a pair of home runs for the Patriots (8-2). Fellow sophomore slugger Dru Jones added a home run of his own, his third in the last two games after hitting a pair in the second half of Saturday's doubleheader split with Miami-Dade.
Michael Paulk (2-1) took the loss on the mound.
CF hosts Hillsborough on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
