The Patriots swung the bats well on their home diamond Tuesday, but dropped a pair of games to Florida State College in their second home doubleheader of the young season. The visitors won the first game 8-6 and the late game 14-5.
CF (2-8) was paced by the consistent hitting of freshman Jessica Knight, who smashed a solo home run in the opener and a pair of doubles in the nightcap. The Patriots flashed the potential of their developing offense in the third inning of the early game, as Jessica McClellan cleared the loaded bases with a 3-run single and Katie Hayes followed with a 2-run homer in a 5-run outburst.
The Patriots take to the road again this weekend, participating in the annual St. Petersburg College Tournament in Clearwater. They return home Feb. 25, hosting Pasco-Hernando at 2 p.m.
