FSC-Jacksonville 60, Central Florida 51 (WBB)

A short-handed Lady Patriots squad suffered its most discouraging loss of a trying season Saturday night, falling to previously-winless FSC-Jacksonville 60-51 and putting a dent in its fragile postseason plans.

FSC-Jacksonville built a 31-25 halftime advantage and built its lead to as much as 15 in the second half. CF, dressing just eight players and absent leading scorers Markeshia Grant and Olivia Nino, shot just 35 percent from the game and missed 11 of its 15 attempts from 3-point range.

Tyeshia Battles led the Lady Patriots with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Amber Powe added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

CF (16-10, 2-4 Mid-Florida Conference) will have to earn its playoff berth on the road, as Saturday represented the team’s final home game of the year. The Lady Patriots maintain a slight edge over FSC-Jacksonville (1-5 MFC) for the conference’s third and final state tournament slot. The battle may come down to the Feb. 22 season finale, when CF visits Jacksonville.
