Central Florida rode an offensive outburst and a brilliant pitching effort to its first doubleheader sweep of the season Thursday. CF beat Pasco-Hernando 8-7 in the early game and 5-0 in the nightcap. Coupled with Tuesday's doubleheader split, the Patriots took three of four games this week from PHCC.
The Patriots won the opener on the strength of a seven-run sixth inning, paced by 2-run home runs by Jessica Knight and Jessica Chewning. Belinda Rennes, Jennifer Hunter and Jandrew Collins each added a pair of hits for the fast-improving Patriot batting order, while Knight added a solid pitching effort to her exploits at the plate, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out seven.
Freshman Megan Still stole the show in the late game, recording a remarkable 13 strikeouts in a 5-hit complete-game shutout. Katie Hayes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, while Ashley Applewhite and Megan David added 2 hits apiece and Kylie Ondriezek drove in 2 runs.
