The Patriots’ simmering offense burst into flames on Saturday at Goodlett Field, hanging a 17-run fifth inning on visiting South Georgia en route to a mercy-rule 24-3 victory.
CF (5-0) batted around twice in the decisive fifth inning to make a mockery of a reasonably competitive game and complete CF’s sweep of its two games of the three-game round-robin affair. The Patriots edged Indian River State 5-4 in the morning game.
In an odd twist of fate, CF will face South Georgia one more time before the Tigers leave town. First pitch is Sunday at noon at Goodlett Field. Awkward.
