It had to happen sometime: Central Florida took its first loss of the baseball season on Saturday at Goodlett Field, splitting a doubleheader with Miami-Dade. The Patriots won the first game 12-7 and dropped the nightcap 9-4.
CF (8-1) was paced in the early game by Kenneth Stalls, with a home run among his 3 hits, and Bradley Goodson, whose 3 hits included a go-ahead 3-run double in the fifth inning of the 7-inning contest. Chris Labriola picked up the win out of the Patriot bullpen.
Dru Jones powered the home team offense in the late game with a pair of 2-run home runs, but it wasn't enough to offset a strong Sharks effort at the plate.
The Patriots visit St. Petersburg on Monday, then host Hillsborough on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
