Central Florida used a pair of big innings late to put away the junior varsity squad from Davenport University on Friday at Goodlett Field. The Patriots improved to 13-6 with the 12-2 victory.
Dru Jones hit his seventh home run in the third inning and to tie the game at 1 before CF exploded for 6 runs in the sixth inning and 4 more in the seventh. Casey Smit had 2 hits and 4 RBIs and Justin Alvarez scored twice and drove in 2 runs to lead the Patriot fireworks.
Tim Luksha continued his strong start on the mound, improving to 5-0 with a 7-inning, 3-hit, 8-strikeout performance.
CF's next game, a Saturday visit from Pasco-Hernando, has been moved up to 11 a.m. due to expected inclement weather.
