Daytona State 72, Central Florida 59 (WBB)

The Lady Patriots sunk deeper into the Mid-Florida Conference pack on Saturday, falling 72-59 to Daytona State to fall below .500 in MFC play.

CF (16-9, 2-3), playing without standout sophomores Markeshia Grant and Olivia Nino, was paced by Amber Powe's 13 points and a 12-point, 9-rebound effort from Tyeshia Battles. The Lady Falcons (11-12, 2-3) quickly put a damper on the women's half of the homecoming hoops doubleheader, building leads of 8-0 and 20-3 on their way to a 34-24 halftime lead and a comfortable 13-point final margin.

The setback all but assures Santa Fe the MFC title, though CF should still reach the postseason and the conference sends the top three of its four teams to the state tournament. A third-place finish behind Santa Fe and Daytona, however, sets up a first-round matchup with juggernaut Gulf Coast. A loss at last-place FSC-Jacksonville on Saturday, however, raises the possibility of missing the playoffs entirely.
