Central Florida scored a dramatic victory Saturday night in Gainesville as it knocked off Palm Beach 82-79 in overtime in the second and final day of the Santa Fe Classic.
Markeshia Grant provided the heavy lifting and the late heroics, scoring a team-high 18 points and sending the game to an extra frame with a late basket. Down by two with 5.4 seconds remaining, Lady Patriots coach Cheryl Rice designed an impromptu inbounds play for her sophomore star. Grant got free and dropped in a layup with just over 3 seconds on the clock to force the overtime, where CF closed the deal to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
The Lady Patriots are off to Atlanta to take on Georgia Perimeter on Wednesday, then they're back home for the season-opening CFCC Classic on Friday and Saturday.
