CF Baseball Star Hunter Smith Signs with Troy

Central Florida sophomore Hunter Smith has signed with Troy University, Patriots head coach Marty Smith said Tuesday. Smith, a lefthanded first baseman out of Crystal River High School, hit .414 with 6 home runs, 55 RBIs, and a .632 slugging percentage as a freshman.

Trojans head coach Bobby Pierce on Smith:
"Hunter is one of the best left handed hitters in the state of Florida and we are excited that he chose Troy. He was one of the more highly recruited players we signed and his overall hitting ability projects well to the Division I level. He hits for both average and power and should provide some middle of the lineup type ability right away."
Smith is the second recent Patriot to latch on with a four-year program, joining Kent State signee Andrew Jones.

In other Patriot baseball news, Marty Smith earned a commitment from RHP Nick Arscott of St. Cloud High School. ProspectWire.com ranks Arscott 39th in Florida's class of 2010.
